What's in this episode:

Ms. Gowthami starts answering the very first question on why we should try to understand the adolescents in our life. She highlights how this is a very confusing phase for them and the need for us to be extremely careful. She reiterates how the personality traits, especially confidence, self-esteem and their inner voice develops through these young years. And if these do not develop in the right environment, how it can be a lifelong challenge for the adolescent.

She explains how it gets tricky because of the varying maturity levels and lack of patience from parents and care givers who expect the adolescents to behave like adults.

Gowthami then goes on to define the adolescent age range. This is not easy at all and hence it is important for you to assess if the youngster in your life falls in this definition.

She talks about how parenting has become more complex and how society is not kind to parents. She talks about how children reach out to her with problems and do not want her to share this with their parents because of the fear of being judged. While this is a real issue on one side, parents believe if they knew the problem, they could have solved it themselves.

Gowthami then goes on to share the top challenges faced by adolescents and then she shares tips on how some of these challenges can be addressed.

She gets into some of these challenges in detail, especially peer pressure - how adolescents struggle with it and how typically parents respond to it!

A very complex topic indeed. And one episode is not enough to do justice to such a topic. During the discussion, we felt as if we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg!
